Icelandic Climate Fund

Updated: May 2, 2023

The Icelandic start-up Rockpore ehf has been awarded the Loftslagssjóður 2023 grant from Icelandic Climate Fund for their innovative project, which aims to produce circular, carbon negative construction materials through recycling glass and building waste. Out of the 65 applications that met the formal requirements, only two were granted a total of 26 million ISK, while over 715 million ISK was applied for. The project is estimated to prevent around 4750 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually and prevent the need for landfilling twenty thousand tonnes of waste in Iceland.

By validating their technology in Iceland, Rockpore can expand their operations in Europe and the US, significantly increasing the amount of CO2 saved and diverted material from landfills to low-carbon building products.

The experienced and cross-functional Rockpore team is proud of this achievement and looks forward to making a positive impact on the environment.
