We’re proud to announce that Rockpore has been awarded the 2025 Vöxtur grant by Rannís - The Icelandic Centre for Research for our project:
🎯 “Carbon-Negative Infill for Artificial Turf: Football Pitches as Carbon Sinks.”
This marks a major step forward in launching our hashtag#ArcticSeries of circular, climate-positive materials — starting with Iceland.
With a total budget of ISK 84.9 million, and ISK 50 million in funding from the Icelandic Technology Development Fund, the project supports:
Product and process optimisation
Environmental and circularity validation
Business model development
Preparations for full-scale industrial production
In close cooperation with Iceland Eco-Business Park, Rockpore will introduce a new methodology to close the scale-up gap — bridging the transition from lab validation to continuous 20,000-tonne annual production.
Our ambition is clear: Over the next 10 years, we aim to position Rockpore as the market leader in replacing up to 200,000 tonnes of rubber crumbs annually across Europe — a market worth over €60 million per year and with the potential to capture and store more than 65,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually through carbon-reactive turf systems.
A final decision to build the production facility is expected later this year. We’re proud to continue this journey in Iceland – the circular hub of Europe.
